Pattern Information
Materials
- 4.5 mm crochet hook - Lighted Crochet Hook Set
This is the lighted hook set that I use and find comfortable for longer projects like the Boo pillow I made for the Humeston Boo Bash. I use the light on the hook when I am using darker yarn (especially black) or when it's getting late in the evening. The charge lasts a few hours, and when it needs to be recharged, it only takes about half an hour, and it's done.
- 58 grams of Loops & Threads Classic Solid - in the color of choice
- tapestry needle and scissors
- tape measure
- stitch markers

- This pattern is written using US crochet terms.
- The number in (parentheses) at the end of the row is the stitch count for the finished row or round.
- The chain-2 at the beginning of every round does not count as a half double crochet.
- The slip-stitch at the end of each round goes into the first stitch that began that round.
- The first stitch goes in the same place we slip-stitched in.
- This pattern uses a foundation single crochet to start, but to modify it for beginners who haven't learned this yet, we are using a foundation chain in this post.
Cuff: Make 2.
- Chain 12. Begin your row of single crochet in the second chain from your hook. Ch-1 and turn.
- In the back loops only, Sc to the end of the row. Ch-1 and turn.
- Repeat step#2 until the work measures approximately 5".
- Ch-1 and turn. Line up your foundation row and the row you just finished. In the back loops only, Sl-st both sides to join them together.
Round 1: Ch-1 and Sc evenly in between the ends of the rows you made to make the cuff. Do NOT finish the last single crochet if you are changing colors. This is where you will join your secondary color. (Grab your secondary color, pull up a loop through the remaining loops from your single crochet, and slip-stitch to the first stitch of the round). (22 Sts)
Mitten and Thumb Gusset
Round 2: Ch-2. 1 Hdc in each Sc stitch in the round. Sl-st to the beginning stitch. (22 Sts)
Round 3: Repeat the last round, 1 time. *Ch-2 before beginning a new round.* (22 Sts)
Round 4: 1 Hdc in the next 10 stitches, then 2 Hdc in the next 2 stitches. Hdc to the end of the round. (24 Sts)
Round 5: 1 Hdc in the next 10 stitches, 2 Hdc in the next stitch, 1 Hdc in the next 2 stitches, and 2 Hdc in the next stitch. Hdc to the end of the round. (26 Sts)
Round 6: 1 Hdc in the next 10 stitches, 2 Hdc in the next stitch, 1 Hdc in the next 4 stitches, and 2 Hdc in the next stitch. Hdc to the end of the round. (28 Sts)
Round 7: 1 Hdc in the next 11 stitches. Ch-2 and Sk-6 Hdc. 1 Hdc in each stitch to the end of the round. (24 Sts)
Round 8: 1 Hdc in the next 11 stitches, 1 Hdc in each Ch-st, and to the end of the round. (24 Sts)
Rounds 9-14: *[1 Hdc in each Hdc in the round. Join each round with a Sl-st to the first Hdc.]*
Round 15: Begin shaping the top of the mitten. Ch-2, *[1 Hdc in the next 4 sts, Hdc2tog] x4. (20 Sts)
Round 16: *[1 Hdc in the next 3 sts, Hdc2tog]* x4. (16 Sts)
Round 17: *[1 Hdc in the next 2 sts, Hdc2tog]* x4. (12 Sts)
Round 18: Fasten off, leaving about a 4-6" tail. Use your tapestry needle to weave in and out around the stitches and cinch up the opening. Secure it by sewing it shut and weaving in your ends.
Thumb
- Join yarn with a slip-stitch where you placed your stitch marker when you chained 2 before skipping stitches. Ch-2, Hdc in each Ch-st and St around the thumb gusset. Join with a Sl-st to the first Hdc. (10 Sts)
- *[Ch-2, 1 Hdc in each Hdc in the round.]* until the thumb from the stitch marker measures approximately 1 1/2 inches. (10 Sts)
- Ch-2. *[Hdc2tog]* x4. Join with a slip-stitch and fasten off. Leave a tail about 4" long to weave your needle around the remaining stitches and sew the end closed. Weave in your loose ends.
